Who are we

Ecolivia is a purpose-driven agribusiness startup at the intersection of social impact, economic empowerment, environmental sustainability, and public health. Rooted in the rich soils of Pakistan, we are dedicated to producing premium-quality extra virgin olive oil as a healthy and sustainable alternative to conventional edible oils. Our mission responds directly to Pakistan’s pressing challenges: poverty, environmental degradation, and the growing public health crisis linked to trans and saturated fats.

What is at stake

  • Health Risks of Trans Fats: According to WHO, five billion people remain unprotected from trans fats, leading to 500,000 premature deaths from coronary heart disease annually. In Pakistan, 240,720 people died from coronary heart disease in 2020, accounting for 16.49% of all fatalities.
  • Unhealthy Edible Oils in Pakistan: Existing edible oils contain high levels of trans and saturated fats, increasing the risks of heart disease, obesity, and strokes.
  • High risk of Ageing: Existing edible oil in Pakistan accelarate the ageing process in general public.
  • Limited Access to Affordable, High-Quality Olive Oil: Olive oil in Pakistan is largely imported and expensive, making it inaccessible to a vast majority of the population.
  • Country vulnerabitlity to climate change: Pakistan is 5th most  climate-vulnerable country, facing extreme weather events such as heatwaves, floods, and droughts. Investing in olive farming can contribute to carbon sequestration, land restoration, biodiversity conservation, green job creation, sustainable livelihoods, and strengthen Pakistan resilience to climate change.

Our Solution

Ecolivia offers a sustainable, locally produced, and affordable extra virgin olive oil that is free from trans fats, reducing health risks and mortality while supporting local agriculture, and locally led adaptation.

Why to use extra virgin olive oil

    • 3-5 years increase in lifespan
    • The highest total olive oil consumption (~3 tablespoons), especially if virgin, was associated with half the risk of frailty
    • Higher olive oil intake was associated with lower risk of total and cause-specific mortality.
    • Replacing margarine, butter, mayonnaise, and dairy fat with olive oil is associated with lower risk of mortality

What We Do

Olive Plantation

Olive plantation plays a vital role in promoting sustainable agriculture and enhancing the livelihoods of climate-vulnerable communities. It supports land restoration, combat deforestation, and reduce soil erosion and flood risks, while offering farmers a resilient, high-value crop.

Wild Olive Grafting

The Malakand region hosts over 40 million wild olive trees, presenting a major opportunity for economic transformation through grafting. Ecolivia’s olive grafting initiative aims to convert these untapped resources into productive assets, boosting local livelihoods and promoting sustainable agriculture.

Nurseries Establishment

Olive nurseries serve as as long-lasting resource centers for the storing, growing, and grafting olive plants. It is a backbone of sustainable olive cultivation in the region, and play a vital role in reforestation, green job creation, and the expansion of climate-resilient agriculture across the region.

Technical Trainings

Technical training to local farmers on smart agriculture, olive plantation, grafting, and extra virgin olive oil extraction enhance farmers’ skills, improve productivity, and promote sustainable farming practices. It helps to supports climate-resilient agriculture and strengthens rural livelihoods through high-value olive oil production.

Green Job Creation

Ecolivia is driving green job creation by promoting sustainable olive cultivation, grafting, and olive oil production in climate-vulnerable regions. Ecolivia work generate employment opportunities in farming, processing, and marketing.

CO2 Sequestration

Olive trees play a vital role in carbon sequestration by absorbing and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide, helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change. As effective carbon sinks, olive trees contribute to both climate adaptation and mitigation, making them a key element of nature-based solutions.
